One night, Sophia went to her room to enjoy her favorite hobby: Writing!
It had been a long day full of schoolwork and activities.
Sophia had her own little world, a tiny desk, where she sometimes read and sometimes wrote whenever she had the chance.
She took out a blank sheet of paper and a nice black pen, ready to write a new story to share with her friends and her Arabic teacher.
Sophia wrote:
“Once upon a time, a long, long time ago, in the distant past…”
But then… her imagination ran out. She thought hard, trying to create a new story, but her mind felt stuck.
She looked at her pen and spoke to it warmly:
“What is wrong, my lovely black pen?
You are my favorite! You’re the best pen I have!
Why will not you write today?
Do not you like this white paper?
Should I try yellow paper instead?”
Sophia gave up, set her beloved pen and paper aside, and soon fell asleep.
The Next Day…
At school the next day, the teacher asked Sophia:
Teacher: “Any new creative ideas in your world of imagination, Sophia?”
Sophia: “No, Miss… I just could not think of any new ideas. I do not know why!”
Teacher: “Do not say that! There is a simple and easy solution.”
Sophia: “What is it, Miss?”
Teacher: “Reading, lots of reading, and only lots… lots of reading! You have wonderful talent, but getting ideas from other people’s stories is important too.”
Sophia: “You are right, Miss! I have not read much lately. Starting today, I will read a lot, so I can keep writing stories, poems, and reflections that you and my friends enjoy.”
Teacher: “Then it is settled! Well done, my little writer. You are going to be a great author one day, and your pen will never get stuck again.”
Moral Question:
According to the teacher’s advice, how can Sophia become a great writer?
