The Rabbit Who Did Not Like to Read

 Free stories for kids +4

It was a bright spring day, and a little rabbit hopped through the forest.

Not far from its burrow, it suddenly heard a melodic song. Looking up, the rabbit saw a bird on a branch, singing happily while holding a small book in its wings Curiously, the rabbit stopped to listen, and soon they began to talk:

Rabbit: “You, hey! Little bird, what are you doing there?”

Bird: “I am singing to celebrate the beautiful flowers and the colorful butterflies that spring has brought, and I am happily reading a new story. Do not you know that reading brings wisdom and joy?”

Rabbit: “Hmm! I do not care about your wisdom or about your readings. What I know, little bird, is that you are just trying to hide your weakness with all that singing and reading… but those stories, poems, and tales do not help you at all. Hmm! Waste of time!”

Bird: (Surprised): “Oh! Really? Why do you say that?” Rabbit: “Your wings are short and weak, and you cannot fly as high as the bigger birds.” The wise bird did not answer the rabbit back but told it to leave quickly, as this was the tiger’s favorite spot, which it visited every day at the same time.

The rabbit mocked and made fun of the bird’s words and laughed loudly, then said, “Do not you know, little bird, that I am one of the fastest animals on this plain?” The bird replied, trying to lighten the mood:

“It is said that one day, a turtle beat you in a race to see who was faster!” Suddenly, while they were talking, the hungry tiger appeared, looking for a meal to satisfy its hungry belly.

The rabbit sensed it and ran to its nearby burrow, luckily just in time. Meanwhile, the bird laughed and called out from the tree branch: “Where is your bravery, stubborn rabbit? Where is your bravery?” “Alas! stubborn rabbit…You almost became a tasty meal for the tiger.

If you read more, your rashness and pride would have decreased, and your wisdom and humility would have increased.”

Moral Question: Mention a trait of the rabbit that does not like reading and a trait of the bird that loves reading.
